Lyle “Butch” Rockers, age 79, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Garnett, Kansas.
Lyle Edward Rockers was born November 8, 1940, at Scipio, Kansas. Butch was the fourth of six children born to Mark Sr. and Annetta (Miller) Rockers. Butch grew up on the family farm and attended school at the Scipio grade school and then Richmond High School for three years before finishing his Senior year at Greeley in 1958. Following school Butch farmed and drove a milk truck. On August 6, 1960, Butch married Lucille Volz at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Greeley. Their union was blessed with four children. They made their home on a farm near Scipio, before moving to their dairy farm southwest of Greeley. In addition to the farm, Butch also drove a truck for various companies. In 1985 Butch started working as a heavy equipment operator in Kansas City. In 1986, they moved from the farm into Garnett. In 1998 Butch founded Lyle Rockers and Sons Excavating. In 1999, he also started LBR Angus. Butch was still actively working in the excavating business and with the cattle operation. In his free time, he loved to tend to his garden. His variety of vegetables will be missed by family and friends who he shared with. Butch enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he especially enjoyed his Tuesday night card club with the Scipio crew. Butch was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church, and a 50 plus year member of Knights of Columbus Council #2680. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, Butch loved spending time with them. Butch’s laugh and smile will be missed by family and friends.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille Rockers on February 16, 2018; sister, Wilma Kratzberg; brothers, Leon Rockers, Richard Rockers, and Mark Rockers, Jr.
Butch is survived by his children, Bruce Rockers and wife, Chris, Laurinda Sobba and husband, Doyle, Brian Rockers and wife, Julie and Eric J. Rockers; eight grandchildren, Jamie Rockers, Kaleb Rockers, and Reagan Rockers and husband, Nick Warry, Shelby Reed and husband, Ryan, Zach Sobba, Jessica Rockers, Bailee Hermreck and husband, Seth, and Ryelee Rockers; three great-grandchildren, Addilynn and RaeLynn Reed and Deacon Conrad Hermreck; brother, Ronald Rockers and wife Jeanette of Greeley, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Betty Rockers of Greeley; and Joan Rockers of Garnett; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio. The family will greet friends following a 7:00 PM Rosary, Thursday evening at Holy Angels.
