Mabel Irene Ellis of Denton, Texas passed away peacefully on December 13, 2012 at age 99. She was born September 24, 1913, in Carlyle, Kansas. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1931 and attended both Wichita Business and Pittsburg Business College. She taught one year at Cherry Grove Country School. Mabel married Paul Herbert Ellis in 1938 and they moved to Iola, where Paul was manager of Ellis Motor Company. In 1964, Paul and Mabel moved to Denton, Texas, where they opened Denton Dodge. They operated the dealership until their retirement in 1988. Mabel was an accomplished pianist, playing for her high school glee club and later for her church, St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Herbert Ellis (Ruth) of Sanger, TX and Steve Ellis (Mary Kay) of Spring, TX; grandchildren Janie Ellis Bill of Sanger; Mike Ellis of Phoenix, AZ; Stephanie Moore of Spring, and Allison Miller of Danville, CA; step-grandchildren Heath Allen, Jennifer Allen, and Justin McGuffin; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul. ROSARY: 7:00 p.m., Tues., Dec. 18, 2012, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, Kansas. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 a.m. Wed., Dec. 19, 2012, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, the family suggestes donation to Immaculate Conception Catholic School or to the Monsignor Charles King Emergency Outreach Center, both at 2255 North Bonnie Brae, Denton, TX 76201.
