Mable Othick, age 93, of Lawrence, Kansas, formerly of Colony, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at The Windsor of Lawrence in Lawrence, Kansas.   She was born October 10, 1924 in Anderson County, Kansas the daughter of Sam and Cynthia (Pittsenbarger) Stauffer. She spent her early years in Anderson and Allen Counties. She attended rural schools until 6th grade and finished her schooling, through her junior year of high school, in Colony Rural School. Mable and her family moved to Jefferson County in 1952 where her family was raised. Mable married Elmer Earl Othick on May 31, 1941 in Iola, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1999. Mable owned and managed two cafés, one in Winchester, Kansas and one in Oskaloosa, Kansas. She was secretary to the production manager for nine years at Curtis 1000 in Lawrence, Kansas. She retired from food service at KU as a Supervisor II on January 5, 1987. Mable moved back to Anderson County to help care for her brother-in-law (Don) at that time and spent until 1998 in Anderson County. Then when Elmer's health began to fail, they moved to a mobile home in Ottawa, Kansas. Mable was able to remain living independently until she was 92 years of age and after a fall in her apartment in Ottawa, she moved to assisted living in Lawrence, Kansas. She loved to travel and she and Elmer spent several winter months in Texas along with some traveling to visit family during the summer months. She also was able to travel with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to several areas in the United States. Many stories by her and her family were shared after these travels with others in her family. She also loved to read and passed that on to her children. Mable was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son on August 19, 1949; a great granddaughter on December 14, 1989; a great grandson in September 2000; and another great grandson on October 13, 2004; and two sisters, Pauline Swisher and Wanda Billingsly. Mable is survived by three children, Judy (Kenneth) Jackson of Ottawa, Kansas; Wayne (Nancy) Othick of Lawrence, Kansas; and Virginia (Don) Filbert of Winchester, Kansas. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren and thirty-two great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to express their thanks to The Windsor of Lawrence, Vitas Hospice, and all of the staff who gave such dedicated care to our mother. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, with burial to follow in the Mont Ida Cemetery, Mont Ida, Kansas. The family will greet friends at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Mont Ida Cemetery Fund, and left in care of the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, PO Box 408, Garnett, Kansas, 66032.
