Marcelle Simmons

Marcelle Lavera Simmons, 95, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, September 11, 2015, at Windsor Place in Iola. Marcelle was born June 11, 1920, in Iola, the daughter of Alva L. "Jack" and Gladys M. (Burgess) Stark. When she was a child, the family moved to Ottawa where she lived until 1996 when she returned to Iola and has resided at Windsor Place since that time. She attended schools in Ottawa and was a member of the Methodist Church there. She married Charles "Bud" Simmons and later divorced. She is survived by several cousins, a niece Linda Norris of Copperas Cove, TX and a nephew Ronald Tompkins of Kansas City, KS, and her cousin, Nancy Joan Willis who looked after her since she moved back to Iola. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Maxine Tompkins and a brother, Alva L. Stark. Cremation is planned with graveside services at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Allen County Hospice and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, who is in charge of arrangements.
