Margaret B. Hahner, age 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. She was born on June 19, 1929, in Richmond, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph S. and Gladys (Maxey) Chandler. Margaret grew up near Princeton, Kansas and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1948, and then attended Ottawa University for one year. After school Margaret lived in Shawnee and worked at Simmons Mattress factory where she met her future husband, Frank. They were united in marriage on June 22, 1952, in Shawnee, Kansas. This union was blessed with five children. Margaret and Frank made their home in Princeton in 1955. While her children were young Margaret was at home with them as well as working a few part time jobs as her time would allow. They later divorced in 1975. Margaret then moved to Ottawa, where she worked for local restaurants as a server. In her retirement years she worked at the Ottawa Middle School cafeteria, where she earned her "mad money". Margaret enjoyed playing bingo. She was very talented at crocheting, and she enjoyed making baby hats and baby blankets for the hospital. Another of her hobbies was attending garage sales where she would find the treasures that she made and sold in her booth at the flea market. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles - Ottawa and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Harold Hahner (1974) and Charles Hahner (1976); and brother, Laurence Chandler. Margaret is survived by her children, Jeff Hahner and wife Deborah of Williamsburg, Kansas; Coleen Burgess and husband Walter "Shorty" of Wellsville, Kansas; Mary Sallee and husband Rickey of Garnett, Kansas; sister-in-law, Coleen Hurley and husband Bill of Metairie, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Heath Burgess and wife Becky, Lindsey Longpine and husband Toby, Elizabeth Walker, Mellissa Longerot, Justin Hahner and wife Megan, and Kellie Hahner; three great grandchildren, Reed and Parker Longpine, and Sterling Hahner. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 6, 2015, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery in Richmond, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
