Margaret Mary Katzer, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on August 28, 1918, at Harris, Kansas, the daughter of James E. and Elizabeth (Burns) Cotter. She attended Amiot Rural School, and graduated from Garnett High School in 1938. Margaret then taught for six years in country schools; worked two years as a file clerk during World War II at Topeka Air Base; and three years as a telephone operator for United Telephone in Garnett, Kansas. Margaret married Stephen P. Katzer on June 15, 1948, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. She was a member of the Holy Angels Church and the Altar Society. Margaret enjoyed dancing, scrapbooking, quilting, embroidering and decorating her home for the holidays. She will be remembered for her penmanship and her birthday phone calls. Her grandchildren were one of her greatest joys. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Berneice Cotter, and her husband, Stephen Katzer on December 10, 2007. She is survived by one son, Larry Katzer and wife Karen of Garnett, Kansas; two daughters, Loretta Nastasio and husband Vince of Blue Springs, Missouri; Theresa Warner and fianc Peter Schumann of Garnett, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Sr. M. Mildred Katzer of Richmond, Kansas; Rita Jackson of Ottawa, Kansas; and five grandchildren, Stephanie Warner, Stacie Warner-Rupp and husband, R.B. Rupp, Sara Warner, Reah Katzer and Brogen Katzer; and one great-grandson, Kayden Jackson Warner (who entered the world on November 18, 2009). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Holy Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery. The family will greet friends following a Rosary and Wake Service at 7:00 PM, Monday evening at the funeral home.
