Margaret Rose Morgan, lifelong member of the Greeley community, peacefully departed this world on September 29, 2023, at the age of 87.
Born on October 31, 1935, in Greeley, Kansas, Margie was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Margie was the tenth of ten children born to Louis and Theresa (Schraml) Sommer and grew up on the farm in between Greeley and Lane. She graduated from Greeley High School with the class of 1953. On October 18, 1955, Margie was united in marriage to Eugene Charles Morgan at Greeley. They made their home on a farm near Greeley. They were blessed with two children, Cathleen, and Leon. Margie worked for over 30 years for the Post Office. Her work included working as a letter carrier in Garnett, Richmond and in Greeley.
Margie was an active member of the St. John's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She loved collecting many types of items, especially dolls. Margie and Marion Devore operated Margie's Antiques in Greeley for several years. She loved God's creations, she enjoyed her flowers and bird watching as well as tending to many neighborhood cats, but her dogs Scotty and Louie ran a close second to her beloved grandchildren, Alicia, and Michael. Her unwavering strength, kind spirit, and compassionate nature touched the lives of all who had the honor of knowing her.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gene on December 4, 1983; daughter, Cathy on July 29, 2013; three sisters and six brothers, Theresa Katzer, Louis Sommer, Harry Sommer, John Sommer, Dick Sommer, Paul Sommer, Anna Marie Wolken, Mary Rockers, and Leo Sommer.
Margie leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and community. She is survived by her son, Leon and wife, Laurie of Greeley; two grandchildren, Alicia of Fort Irwin, California and Michael of Lawrence, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife to her late husband, a loving mother to her children, and an adored grandmother to her grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Margie's life and offer prayers for her eternal rest will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 10:30 AM, at St. John's Catholic Church, Greeley. Following the Mass, Margaret will be laid to rest in a burial ceremony at the family plot located at 31587 NE Utah Road, Greeley, Kansas 66033. A Rosary will be recited in Margie's honor at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at St. John's Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, where memories and condolences can be shared, following the Rosary at 6:30 PM in the St. John's Church Hall.
The family kindly requests that donations be made in Margaret's honor to St. John's Altar Society and may be left in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, Kansas.
Though Margaret's physical presence may no longer be with us, her memory will be eternally cherished in our hearts. May her soul find peace and solace in the eternal embrace of God's love.
