Margaret Jane Robb, age 85, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on April 4, 2024 at Glen Carr House Memory Care in Derby, Kansas.
Margaret was born on February 28, 1939, to Philip Butler and Marjorie (Gilliland) Butler. At two years old, she was adopted by Lewis "Snipe" Thornton. She lived her whole life in Iola. In 1955, she married John P. Robb.
Margaret was a homemaker, and an amazing seamstress. She created couture wedding gowns, and designed costumes for ICT Theater. She altered prom dresses, as well. Most creations were done from scratch. Margaret also loved Barbie dolls, owning over 2,000 of them, from porcelain to plastic, she never let a good doll go to waste. She worked retail in downtown Iola, and she was passionate about animals, specifically her dogs. Her favorite dog being her sweet Brandy, a small Chihuahua-Yorkie mix. When she was a little girl, before she got glasses, Margaret had a protector in a junkyard dog, one who did not like anyone else but Margaret.
Margaret was a member of the American Legion, the Ladies Elks of Iola, former costume director of ICT Theater, and was a former member of Bible Fellowship Church in Iola.
Margaret is preceded in death by her biological and adoptive parents; her husband, John; sisters, Regina Thornton, Judy Helman, and Vivian Michael; granddaughter, Marsha Kay Smoot; grandson, Michael P. Robb; sister-in-law, Colleen Robb Pearman; brother-in-law Roger Robb; and son-in-law, Melvin Smoot.
Margaret is survived by children Melinda Smoot, Steve (Becky) Robb, Tim (Susan) Robb, and Joseph Robb; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Butler and Pat (Robert) Barkdoll; sister-in-law, Sandy Robb; and brother-in-laws E.S. Robb, Carl Robb, and Gerald Pearman. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends Johnny Standford and Doris Peters.
A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. Interment will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery. Family will greet friends just prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) and left in the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
