Margaret Smoot

Margaret Jean Smoot, 86, formerly of Gas, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Iola Nursing Center. Margaret was born February 3, 1928, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the daughter of Merrill and Helen Marie (Fuehrer) Goodsell. On August 12, 1944, the Goodsell family moved to Gas. Margaret graduated from Iola High School in 1946. On May 25, 1946, Margaret married Harry Rex Smoot in Gas. They always made their home at Gas. Margaret worked in the Allen County District Court office, was secretary at Iola Junior High School and retired as secretary for USD 257 Superintendent and Board of Education. Rex preceded her in death September 1, 2001. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Iola. SURVIVORS: 2 Sisters: Marian Wilson of Gas, KS and Shirley Sweany & husband, Ray of Mayfield, KY She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant brother and her brother-in-law, Orel Wilson. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at First Church of the Nazarene in Iola.
