Margery E. Spillman, of Moran, Kansas passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. She was born July 1, 1920 in Anderson County, Kansas west of Colony on her grandfather's farm. She was the daughter of Joe M. Adams and Eurith (Matter) Adams. The family moved to Lone Elm, Kansas where she attended the first & second grades. She attended third at Mildred, fourth through seventh at Overland Park & eighth grade at Corinth country school. She attended Shawnee Mission High School two years. The family moved back to Lone Elm where she graduated in 1938. She went to Pittsburg College the following year then began teaching. She taught 3 years in country schools, 4 years at Mildred, 2 years at LaHarpe and 35 years at Moran where she retired in 1984. She continued attending college during her teaching years and received her B.S. degree and Masters from Pittsburg. On May 12, 1942 she married Lee Ed Spillman. They lived north of Moran for 45 years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1992 at Moran Christian Church. They moved to Moran in 1987. Margery was a faithful member of the Moran Christian Church for over 60 years after transferring from Northcott Christian Church. While a member of the Moran Christian Church she was very active with the Moran Vacation Bible School program and Bible classes at Church. Margery was a member of and very involved with many community service organizations: Teachers Honorary Society, Alpha Delta Kappa, Retired Teachers Organization, Senior Citizens, The Moran American Legion Auxiliary, The Hospital Auxiliary, The (F.C.E.) Family, Community, & Education group. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Ed on August 22, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her sister Etta Beal and her brother Richard Adams. She is survived by 16 nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the Moran Christian Church on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Bill LaPorte officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery east of Mildred. The family will greet friends from 6-8 PM, Friday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Home in Moran.
