Marian J. Wilson, 91 years old, formerly of Gas, Kansas, died September 5, 2020, at Iola.
Marian was born May 30, 1929, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the daughter of Merrill and Helen Marie (Fuehrer) Goodsell. On August 12, 1944, the Goodsell family moved to Gas. Marian graduated from Iola High School in 1946.
On January 1, 1947, Marian married Orel L. Wilson at her parents’ home in Gas. Marian and Orel always made their home in Gas. When Sears Roebuck & Company established a store in Iola in 1952, Marian began working for them and ultimately became manager of the local store.
She had a beautiful singing voice and she and her sister, Margaret Smoot, sang duets for church services and other events. Marian was the organist for her church, First Church of the Nazarene. Orel preceded her in death on October 6, 2013. They were married 66 years. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Smoot.
Survivors include Marian’s sister, Shirley Sweany, and her husband, Ray Sweany, of Mayfield, Kentucky; and Marian’s niece, Debra Rae Cavitt, Paducah, Kentucky.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020, in the Lone Elm Cemetery, Lone Elm, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Iola Public Library or Bowlus Fine Arts Center, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
