Marion B. Barnett, 88, died October 3, 2008 at Mennonite Manor, Wheaton House, South Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born January 28, 1920 in Parker, Kansas, the son of Orville and Mary (Troutman) Barnett. He was the third son of three children. He graduated from Parker Rural High School, Parker, Kansas, in the Class of 1938. He was a lifelong Parker resident and was a dairy and cattle farmer for over 50 years. On August 1, 1942, he married Phoebe Eudora McCarty in Kansas City, Kansas. They became parents of two children. Phoebe passed away March 5, 1993. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from August 1942 until April 12, 1944. He fought in the Aleutian Island Campaign. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He also belonged to the First Baptist Church of Parker, Kansas. Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Mary Barnett; and two brothers, Oscar Barnett and James Barnett. He is survived by a son, Melvin Barnett and wife Elizabeth of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter, Connie Polley of Osawatomie, Kansas; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 2:00 P.M, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, with burial to follow at Parker Cemetery, Parker, Kansas. Family will be present to greet friends on hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Manor/Wheaton House and may be left in care of the funeral home.
