Mark Matthew Katzer, age 54, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Golden Heights in Garnett, Kansas. He was born on April 30, 1956, at Garnett, the son of Tony H. Katzer and Anna L. (Egidy) Katzer. He was the youngest of thirteen children. Mark grew up in Greeley and graduated from Garnett High School in 1974. Following school he went to work in Lawrence on a framing crew; he also worked on the construction of the Wolf Creek Power Plant. He worked for BEHM in Osawatomie in shipping and receiving. He worked as a laborer for McCorkendale Construction, and for Wolken Construction Company constructing water and sewer lines. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Mark loved his family and spending time with them; helping his brothers on the farm; and watching football and basketball. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Ralph; one nephew, Brian Katzer. He is survived by seven brothers, Maurice Katzer and wife Kay of Centerville, Kansas; Virgil Katzer and wife Linda of Garnett, Kansas; Ben Katzer and wife Barbara of Garnett, Kansas; Jerry Katzer and wife Faye of Oak Grove, Missouri; Mike Katzer of Lawrence, Kansas; Fred Katzer and wife Nancy of Greeley, Kansas; Greg Katzer and wife Shirley of Greeley, Kansas; four sisters, Anthonette Wolken and husband Harold of Garnett, Kansas; Marlene Hermreck of Garnett, Kansas; Kathy Wittman and husband Chuck of Garnett, Kansas; Theresa Morgan and husband Larry of Lawrence, Kansas; forty nieces and nephews; and fifty-seven great nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. John's Cemetery in Greeley. The family will greet friends following a Rosary service at 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the church.
