Marvin Jackman, age 90, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at his home. He was born May 6, 1925 in Gas City, Kansas at home to Henry Herman and Cecil Faye (Pope) Jackman. He attended school at Gas Grade School then Iola High for three years. He quit school to enlist at the age of 18 in the Marine Corp during WWII. He served from 1943-1946. He served in the Mariana Islands and he was in the battles for Okinawa, Tinian, and Saipan. His unit, Co. B, 1st Battalion, 6th Regiment, 2nd Marine Division patrolled Saipan in the days after the Atomic Bomb was dropped. He received the Purple Heart for injuries received in battle. Marvin operated heavy equipment with his own business and he partnered with his brother Herman for a time. He worked for the Allen County Road Department, at IMP boats and spent some time driving trucks for Ruan Transportation & Quality Packaging before finishing his work life at Siefker Farms. On May 10, 1946, he married Dollene Stanley and this union was blessed with seven children. They later divorced. In 1969, Marvin and Doris Womack King were married in Miami, Oklahoma; this union was blessed with one child. Doris died in 1995. Marvin was preceded in death by three daughters, Connie Drybread, Cindy Catterson and Marita Jackman; and a brother, Herman Jackman. He is survived by his sister, Elnora Stanley of Humboldt, Kansas; his children, Brenda Swanson and husband Jerry of Elsmore, Kansas; Marlene Humphrey and her partner Steve Rothwell of Lawrence, Kansas; Danny Jackman and wife Margaret of Moran, Kansas; Greg Jackman and his wife Terri of Colony, Kansas; Jeff Jackman and his wife Joanna of Oskaloosa, Iowa, 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; stepchildren include Gale King of Parsons, Kansas; Stephen King and wife Monika of Atchison, Kansas; Veronica King of Brisbane, California; Greg King and wife Donna of Huntsville, Alabama; Jeff King and wife Marie of Lincoln, Nebraska; Chris King and wife Rhonda of Moran; and son, Marvin Jackman II and wife Linda of Idaho Falls, Idaho; as well as 12 grandchildren. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Moran Cemetery by Reverend Bill LaPorte. Moran American Legion Post 385 will conduct military honors. Family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Moran, Kansas. Condolences may be sent to www.feuerbornfuneral.com
