Mary Bake, 95, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute, Kansas. Mary was born May 27, 1916, at rural Yates Center, Kansas, the youngest of 11 children born to Isaac and Nettie Matilda (Chapman) Terrell. She grew up on the family farm north of Yates Center and attended Yates Center schools. On August 18, 1949, Mary married Estle Miller Bake at the Burt community north of Yates Center. They made their home following his construction career living in Yates Center and Leon before moving to Humboldt in 1955. She later completed beauty school and operated her own beauty shop. Mr. Bake preceded her in death on January 30, 2004. Mary enjoyed traveling, especially to the New England area. Her memberships include the First Baptist Church in Humboldt, FEC Homemaker's Unit and the Humboldt Senior Center. SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Kathryn L. Cox of Austin, Texas 1 Brother: Mervin Terrell of Kentland, Indiana 1 Sister: Ella McClure of Darrington, Washington Lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Lester, Dudley, Ernest, Raymond, Van and Athel and 2 sisters, Tressa Harman and Nora Driskill. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, Kansas. BURIAL: Askren Cemetery northwest of Yates Center, Kansas.
