Mary Martin

Mary L. Martin, 77, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015, at her home. Mary was born February 11, 1938, in Parsons, Kansas, the daughter of James David and Dorothy Helen (Tomlinson) Murrow. She grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1956. On August 31, 1957, Mary married Donald Lee Martin, Jr. in Humboldt. They made their home in Lawrence and Humboldt for a couple of years before moving to Iola. Mary served as executive director of the Thomas H. Bowlus Fine Arts and Cultural Center in Iola for over 20 years. Don preceded her in death November 11, 2006. Mary was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Iola, Friends of the Bowlus, Iola Community Theater, Iola Rotary Club and was active with the Buster Keaton Film Festival. She and Don were active in Iola Jaycees and Jaycee Janes and all the softball and baseball programs in Iola, while raising their family. SURVIVORS: 3 Sons: Greg Martin & wife, Shannon of Yates Center, KS, Robert Martin & wife, Melody of West Plains, MO, and Mike Martin of Owasso, OK 1 Son-in-law: Mitch Sigg of Iola, KS 2 Siblings: Jim L. Murrow of Springfield, MO and Diana Adams & Eric Copening of Rogers, AR 16 Grandchildren & 10 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Margaret Lynn "Peggy" Sigg and daughter-in-law Cindi Martin. ROSARY: 6:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at St. John's Parish Center in Iola following the Rosary. FUNERAL MASS: 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola.
