Mary Katherine (Kat) Smith, passed away on June 25, 2024, in Iola, Kansas, at the age of 61. Born on June 10, 1963, to George and Mary Ann (Mason) Smith, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Kat brought joy and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Kat grew up in Texas and moved to Nebraska in 1973, graduating from Hemingford High School in 1981. She made her home in Bellevue, Nebraska in 2007 before moving to Colony, Kansas in 2023.

Kat worked as a waitress and a nurse in Alliance, Nebraska and a bar tender in LaVista Keno in Omaha, Nebraska.

Throughout her life, Kat touched the hearts of many with her infectious smile, warm spirit, and unwavering kindness. She brightened the days of countless individuals that crossed her path with her exceptional service and genuine care for others.

Despite facing various challenges, Kat remained a pillar of strength and resilience, never failing to spread love and positivity wherever she went. Her unwavering dedication to her work and commitment to her loved ones will always be remembered and cherished. Kat adored her pets with all of her heart. She had a great passion and love for playing in the dirt with her plants and learning about new ones. Kat enjoyed reading and challenging her dad with crossword puzzles. One of her greatest loves was being around her grandchildren and spending time with them.

Kat was preceded in death by her father.

Kat is survived by her mother, Mary Ann Smith, who held a special place in her heart. Together, they shared countless memories that will forever be treasured; daughter, Kyrie Estrada and husband Tony Lewis of Ruskin, Florida; grandchildren, Bridger Lawmaster and Deklin Jennings; two sisters, Cynthia (Cindy) Smith of Alliance Nebraska, Nancy (LaNell) Knoll and husband Gary of Colony, Kansas; nieces, Nikki Ritter and husband Shaun, Carly Tschacher, Bentley Tschacher, Shelli Hornberger, Sabrina Knoll; nephews, Scott Tschacher, Crymson Tschacher, Lincoln Tschacher, Lucas Smith, David Hornberger, along with other relatives and friends.

Kat may have left this world, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her memory will be forever cherished, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday July 13, 2024 at 2:00 P.M., at High Point Cowboy Church in Colony, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to PSP Research at Mayo Clinic or Donor's Choice and can be left in the care of the funeral home.
