Matthew Michael Gengler, age 40, of Iola, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Iola on May 1, 2018. Matt was born on November 27, 1977, in Beloit, Kansas, to Walter Michael Gengler and Mary Ellen Malcolm Gengler. He graduated from Iola High School and Allen Community College. Matt and Tracy Thomas were married on September 9, 2011, in Iola. Tracy passed away less than a year ago on May 22, 2017. Matt previously worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation and currently worked at Gates Rubber Company. Matt liked to ride his motorcycle, watch the Broncos play football, and spending time with his friends. He and Tracy loved to watch sports together, especially when the Packers played the Broncos. Matt was a good chess player, and he enjoyed playing games with family and friends. He took his Catholic faith very seriously. Matt loved his cat, Kiki, and the two adopted each other after the cat was found crying outside Matt and Tracy's house. Matt is survived by his mother, Mary Ellen Gengler, Iola; his sister, Christina Sollars and husband, Drew, Olathe; one niece, Julia Sollars, and one nephew, Fred Sollars, both of Olathe. Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Tracy, and his father, Mike Gengler. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola, Kansas. A Funeral Mass honoring Matt's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018, at St. John's Catholic Church, Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Gas, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Catholic Church, Iola, Kansas, and may be left at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
