Max Nichols

Max Alan Nichols, 58, of Iola, Kansas, died Saturday, October 8, 2011, in Bourbon County. Max was born February 18, 1953, in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of Malcolm C. and Virginia Lee (Boeker) Nichols. He grew up at Mulvane and graduated from Mulvane High School in 1971. Max attended Wichita Technical Institute and received his certification in heating and air conditioning. He worked for Fahnestock Heating and Air Conditioning in Wichita and Miller Electric in Derby. On December 20, 1975, Max married Janet L. McAntee at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia, Kansas. They moved to Emporia in 1977 from Derby, and Max worked for I.B.P. in Emporia. In 1979, he began working as an electrical planner for Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant in Burlington. Max and Janet moved to Iola in 1984. He has completed 32 years with Wolf Creek. Max was a member of the First Christian Church in Iola. He loved being outdoors, cutting wood, deer hunting and playing with his grandkids. For many years, he coached softball and baseball teams, and summer basketball for his children. SURVIVORS: His wife of 35 years: Janet Nichols of the home 3 Children: Dusti Mechling & husband, Webb of Ventura, CA, Matt Nichols & wife, Amber of Gardner, KS, and Lacey Wilbert & husband, J.D. of Pittsburg, KS 6 Grandchildren: Cooper & Max Nichols, Gracie & Brigham Mechling, and Emery & Weston Wilbert with another Wilbert on the way 4 Brothers: Steve Nichols & wife, Kathy of Mulvane, KS, Malcolm Nichols & wife, Karen of Austin, TX, Mike Nichols & wife, Roxanne of Mulvane, KS, and Stoney Nichols & wife, Tina of Mulvane, KS 1 Sister-In-Law: Sue Hamman & husband, Randy of Topeka, KS A host of nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm & Virginia Nichols, and his in-laws, Glen & Jo McAntee of Admire, KS. Cremation has taken place. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Iola. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Iola. Pastor Dave McGullion will officiate.
