She was born on June 1, 1938, in Amity, Arkansas, the youngest daughter of Andy and Mabel (Ring) Nutt. In her younger youth, her family traveled all over the United States to harvest many different crops. At the age of 10, she was working alongside her family in the fields. The harvest went late into the school year, but that didn't keep her from being successful in her classes. Maxine loved her MHS Class of 1957, and attended reunions every year. In her life, she had many different jobs. Maxine ran a chicken catching crew, raised chickens and cattle, operated a Peach Orchard and owned several restaurants. She worked very hard to support her family.

She was a loving mom and grandma, cherished friend, and vibrant soul. Maxine had a great personality and was known for her infectious laughter and warm heart. She had a deep love for her family and treasured spending time with them. Maxine also enjoyed the company of her friends and found joy in their camaraderie. Additionally, she found excitement in trips to the casino, always savoring those moments of fun and entertainment.

Maxine was married to Winston Cox in 1953. This union was blessed with three children. They later divorced.

In 1983, Maxine married Billy Wayne Stewart. He preceded her in death in 1988.

In 1992, Maxine married Thomas Ensley. He preceded her in death in 2018.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Carlos Nutt and Carmen Cox; grandson, Derrick Hickey.

Maxine is survived by her children, Larry Cox of Conway, Arkansas, Garry Cox and Janice Steedley (Michael) of Colony, Kansas; grandchildren, Sarah Steedley (Ryan) of Topeka and Erin Clark (Matthew) of Mulvane, Kansas; step children, Randy Stewart (Marla), Bruce Stewart (Paulette), Debbie Abernathy (Elbert) of Kirby, Arkansas; and Rosalee (Stan) Blattner of Hutchinson, Kansas and numerous other family and friends.
