Melvern "Mel" K. Judd, age 87, of Centerville, Kansas, passed away on April 14, 2012 at the Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas. He was born November 11, 1924, at Melvern, Kansas, the son of Fred and Blanche (Snyder) Judd. Mel attended school in Ottawa, Kansas, until entering the US Army in June of 1943. He was wounded in action in Normandy in November 1944. Mel was honorably discharged on October 10, 1945. Mel married Doris Welch. This union was blessed with one daughter, Connie. They later divorced. In 1961, Mel married Ellen (Stapleton) Conner. They made their home in Alamogordo, New Mexico. They moved to Ottawa in 2008. Following the death of Ellen, Mel moved to Centerville, Kansas then to Country View Nursing Home in Prescott, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ellen on November 20, 2010. Mel is survived by one daughter, Connie Hashman and husband Mike; two step-sons, Glenn Conner and wife Brenda, Richard Conner; two step-daughters, Diana Englebrink and husband Frank, and Shirley Trout; 2 grandchildren and 8 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 12 step-great grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Judd and wife Mary of Derby, Kansas. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett.
