Meredith Maxine (Heckman) Rogers, age 67, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on June 30, 2023, at the Life Care Center of Wichita, Wichita, Kansas.
Meredith was born in Weirtheim, Germany, on December 22, 1955. As a baby, she was adopted by Charles "Elmo" Heckman and Irene R. (Black) Heckman. They lived in Uniontown and Bronson before moving to Moran, Kansas, where she graduated from high school in 1973. Meredith then attended Allen Community College where she majored in nursing.
On August 27, 1977, Meredith married Michael A. Rogers. To that union, two sons were born, Michael D. and Charles E. Rogers.
Meredith loved caring for the elderly. She started her nursing adventure as a candy striper at Fort Scott Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kansas, it was there, that, she knew nursing was her calling. Meredith went on to become a certified nurse aide, medication aide, social services director, and activities director. In 1998, she became an operator for assisted living, residential care facilities and home plus facilities. Throughout her career she worked at Allen County Hospital, Arkhaven Nursing Home, Windsor Place Nursing Home, Moran Manor Nursing Home, and Fountain Villa Residential Care for 14 years, working as the operator for 10 years. Meredith finished her nursing career at Heartland Meadows Home as operator along side Leslie Weir.
Meredith loved helping people. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching basketball, baseball, football, and she enjoyed bowling. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and word search puzzles. She was a good wife, mother and grandmother.
Meredith attended Covenant of Faith Christian Center, formerly the 2nd Baptist Church of Iola, from 1998 to present.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Michael, in 1990.
Meredith is survived by her two sons, Mike Rogers and wife, Diane, Iola, Kansas, Chuck Rogers and wife, Susie, Iola, Kansas; step-daughter, Shanele Enaboifo, Lawrence, Kansas; four grandchildren, Darius Greenawalt, Topeka, Kansas, Kane Rogers, Iola, Kansas, Kole Rogers, Jacksonville, Arkansas, Charles Rogers II, Iola, Kansas; and her beloved dog, Phoebe.
Meredith's family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday evening, July 19, 2023, in The Venue, Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
Memorial services for Meredith will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Covenant of Faith Christian Center, Iola, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and left in care of the funeral home.
