Michael D. Penland

Michael D. Penland, age 56, of Quenemo, Kansas passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, Kansas. Mike was born November 5, 1959 at Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Ronald Dean and Betty Joanne (Leonard) Penland. His family moved to Garnett in 1973 where attended school. Mike worked in various construction trades throughout his lifetime. He worked as a black water diver for Utility Diving Services in Kansas City for a few years. He was currently a member of the Local 61 Carpenter's Union, Kansas City. Mike enjoyed working on his 69 Camaro, fishing and hunting, spending time with family and friends, riding and taking care of his horse, Whiskey Boy. He was especially fond of the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald; mother, Betty McConnell; step-son, Lars Valsvick; and two brothers, Tom Calcott and Ronnie Penland. Mike is survived by his wife, Tracie; five children, Jeremy Penland of Florida, Zach Penland and wife, Meghan, of Kincaid, Kansas, Desta Penland and fiancé, Grant Mason, of Waverly, Kansas, Jamie Penland and Shay Neal of Waverly, Kansas and Michael Penland II, of Quenemo, Kansas; step-daughter, Crystal Scott of Paola, nine grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters, Vada Martin and husband, Rob, of Citrus Springs, Florida, Jeannie Strange and husband, Roy, of Gladstone, Missouri, Bob Calcott and wife, Patricia, of Westphalia, Kansas, Sandy Nedwed and husband, Ron, of Waverly, Kansas, Vikkie Bellinger and husband, Donnie, of Ottawa, Kansas, Jimmy McConnell of Paola, Kansas, and Gary McConnell and wife, Juanita, of Williamsburg, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 16, 2016 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Kansas.
