Mike Farris, age 63, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2010, in Joplin, Missouri. Mike was born on January 11, 1947 at Iola, Kansas, the son of Eugene and Flora (Fowler) Farris. He grew up in the Colony area, graduating from Colony High School. He attended Allen County Community College, Emporia State University, and Pittsburg State University. Mike graduated with a Mortuary Science Degree. He served in the Armed Forces. As a young man he worked at the family businesses, the funeral home and drug store in Colony. After college, he moved to Kansas City, where he worked at Diebel's on the Plaza for many years. In the early 1990's, Mike moved to Iola. He has been a devoted employee of Iola Pharmacy for the past 12 years. Mike was a member of the Austin Healy Car Club in Kansas City. He was mechanically inclined and loved to work on and repair anything. He was a volunteer for the Iola Community Theater in the technical area. Mike loved his weekend breakfasts at the Country Diner in Colony and his visits over daily coffee with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike is survived by his cousins, Nancy Kuns and husband Sam of Wichita, Kansas; Terri Mitchell and husband Steve of Des Moines, Iowa; their children, Tommy Kuns, Will Kuns, Anna Kuns, Samantha Kuns, Nate Mitchell and Megan Mitchell; his aunt, Julia Fowler of California, Missouri; and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Colony Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Iola Community Theater.
