Milburn Frederick "Fred" Kelley, age 72, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Colmery-O'Neil VAMC, Topeka, Kansas. He was born March 10, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Milburn and Dixie (Merryman) Kelley. Fred graduated from the Nashua School District in Liberty, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 29, 1963 to July 17, 1967 and served in the Vietnam War. Fred was awarded the Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations insignia, the Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnam Service medal, and the National Defense Service medal. After the service, he lived in Nashua, Missouri with his sister Patricia. Fred worked for NASA as a transportation specialist. He then owned and operated an asphalt company, Kelley, Inc., in Kansas City, Missouri. Fred moved to Coffeyville in 1980 working for Dennis Scrivner. When his work relocated to Garnett, he continued to live and raise his family here. Fred worked for the Anderson County Appraiser Office for several years until 2000, when his health started failing. He was a member of the Garnett V.F.W. Post #6397 and the NRA. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Milburn and Dixie Kelley; four sisters, Nellie Stooksbury; Dixie Lee Kelley; and Rose Louise Williams. He is survived by Milburn F. Kelley III of Garnett, Kansas; Debra Dawn Kelley of Olathe, Kansas; Kathryn Marie Kelley of Yates Center, Kansas; Katrina Gail Kelley of Wichita, Kansas; Angela Denise Feldkamp of Osawatomie, Kansas; Joshua Skinner of Kansas City, Kansas; and Caleb Skinner of Garnett, Kansas; grandchildren, Aden Kelley, Dravin Luttrell, Breanden Kelley, Aerowynn Kelley, Hannah Nash, Karissa Nash; Devon Hayden and Gage Hartley; and seven other grandchildren; sister, Patricia Ann Leonard of Palm Bay, Florida; Mary Alice Slayton; brothers, Wilburn "Bob" Kelley of Doniphan, Missouri; Charles Michael Kelley of Pennsylvania; and Phillip Dean Kelley; along with several family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Cremation is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fred Kelley Memorial Fund.
