Mildred Gurwell

Mildred "Millie" Claire Gurwell, 65, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. She was born June 2, 1952 to Clifford and Frances (McCoy) Gurwell. She attended Iola schools, and worked in several nursing homes before health reasons put her in a nursing home herself. She made many friends over the years, and loved them all. A highlight in her life was when a friend took her to Colorado to visit Lance and see the scenery. She enjoyed collecting Angels, Black Bears and Dolphins. She is survived by her brother Lance and Sue Ellen of Colorado Springs, CO, and Keith of Chanute, KS, and also several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother who died at birth. A graveside memorial service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Highland Cemetery in Iola. Following her generous donation of organs, so others may live, cremation has taken place. Contributions in her memory are suggested to the Mildred Gurwell Memorial Fund, and can be left with the funeral home.
