Riley Munroe Ingroum, age 83, of Iola, Kansas, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Iola Nursing Center. Munroe was born July 4, 1925, near Kensington, Kansas, the son of Ira Burl and Mae Matilda Caroline (Diercks) Ingroum. He grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1943. He served as a radio operator in the United States Navy during World War II. He returned to Iola following his honorable discharge. On August 19, 1950, Munroe married Opal Lorene Luttrell at Nevada, Missouri. They made their home in Iola where he worked as a carpenter. He worked as a superintendent for Flynt Pipeline out of Atlanta during the 1970's. The family made their home in the southern states for several years before returning to Iola. He also operated a small appliance repair business. Munroe was a Life Member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #6324 at LaHarpe. He had served as an inspector for the city of Humboldt and had belonged to the Optimist's Club. He enjoyed making toys for children and playing chess. SURVIVORS: Wife: Lorene Ingroum - of the home 1 Son: Alan Ingroum of Iola, KS 2 Daughters: Cindy Harvell of Marathon, FL; and Karla Ingroum of Iola, KS 1 Sister: Dollie Mae Ray of Bucyrus, KS 4 Grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, Angie & Terrell 2 Great Grandchildren: Damon & Jasmine He was preceded in death by 8 siblings, Norene, Duron, Winona Jean, Barney, Lindy Lee, Lindy Dee, I.B. & Virgil. Cremation has taken place. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
