Myrtle Iris Brodmerkle, 93, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, August 28, 2011, at her home. Myrtle was born December 11, 1917, on a farm northwest of Yates Center, Kansas, the daughter of Archie and Mary (Mulsow) Wells. She grew up on the farm and worked at several jobs before she married Philip L. Brodmerkle on July 18, 1943. They made their home in Woodson, Bourbon, Greenwood and Allen Counties, moving to Iola in 1972. During the early years of her marriage she worked as a retail salesclerk in Yates Center and Fort Scott. Mr. Brodmerkle preceded her in death on August 26, 1992. Myrtle enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Her memberships include the Wesley United Methodist Church and the Dirt Diggers Garden Club. SURVIVORS: 2 Sons: Steven L. Brodmerkle of Neosho Falls, KS and Bruce L. Brodmerkle & wife, Marilyn of Chillicothe, MO 1 Sister: Vanessa Gould of Portland, OR 2 Granddaughters: Lauren Horsman & husband, Ryan, and Kathryn Brodmerkle 1 Great Granddaughter: Harper Iris Horsman She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Myrnice Stranghoner and Lyla Oswald, 2 infant sisters, Leila & Cleta and an infant brother, Roy. VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. The Rev. Trudy Kenyon Anderson will officiate. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas MEMORIAL: Wesley United Methodist Church Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
