Nada Mae Hughes, age 93, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. She was born on February 25, 1916, at Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest Carl and Viola Mae (Schuck) Browning. She graduated from Emporia High School, Emporia, Kansas. Nada married Arthur "Chub" Hughes on May 8, 1948 in Brownsville, Texas. They moved from Emporia to Garnett in 1948. She was the owner of "Nada's Dress Shop" from 1958 to 1967. She was a homemaker, and spent much of her time walking, fishing, golfing, taking care of her garden, and most importantly taking care of her family. She loved being a Grandma and spoiling her grandkids. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Nada was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Viola Browning; her husband, Chub Hughes on June 4, 1992; two sisters, Vera Davison and Lois Browning. She is survived by two sons, Charles A. Hughes and wife Susie of Olathe, Kansas; Bill Hughes of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Whitney Hughes of Greeley, Kansas; Courtney Brady and husband, Bryan, of Hays, Kansas and one great grandson, Jake Brady. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Interment will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 7:30 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Garnett Country Club or to the Victory Junction Gang and sent in care of the funeral home.
