Nancy Powell Flewharty, 82, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, August 28, 2009, at the Moran Manor. Nancy was born February 22, 1927, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of J.M. and Ina (Melton) Powell. She graduated from Iola High School and the University of Texas at Austin. On June 29, 1948, Nancy married Thomas W. Flewharty in Iola. They made their home in Midland and then Dallas, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia, Minneapolis, Minnesota and New York City before returning to Iola in 1975. They owned and operated Flewharty's Office Supplies for several years. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1995. Nancy continued with the management of her farms and received a Kansas Bankers Award for attention to soil conservation. She was a member of P.E.O., Sorosis, Wesley United Methodist Church and supported the Iola Symphony Orchestra. SURVIVORS: One Daughter: Molly Flewharty of Milford, Pennsylvania She was preceded in death by her brother, John M. Powell. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. The Rev. Steve Traw will officiate.
