Nicholas Lee Brown, 30, of rural Piqua, Kansas, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, from injuries he received in a two vehicle accident a mile west of Piqua on U.S. Highway 54. Nick was born August 29, 1978, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kansas, the son of Nathan L. and Glenda M. (Chriestenson) Brown. He grew up at Neosho Falls and attended Yates Center schools. He graduated from Yates Center High School in 1997. Nick enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard before graduating and served 6 years before being honorably discharged. He has worked for a number of local oil producers before starting his own companies, B&S Petroleum and Nick Brown Drilling. At the time of his death, he was operating both companies. Nick enjoyed fishing and being with family. He was a member of the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church. On December 30, 2006, Nick married Jessica P. Brown at Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia, Kansas. SURVIVORS: His wife: Jessica Brown of the home His 18 month old son: Kevin Lee Brown of the home His Parents: Nathan & Glenda Brown of rural Yates Center, Kansas His Grandmother: Juanita Chriestenson of Neosho Falls, Kansas His Sister: Melissa Jones & husband, David of Yates Center, Kansas Niece & Nephew: Nolan & Hannah Jones His In-Laws: Gary & Juanita Brown of Olpe, Kansas A number of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Charley Chriestenson and Rev. & Mrs. Roy L. Brown. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2009, at Neosho Falls United Methodist Church. BURIAL: Logue Cemetery east of LeRoy, Kansas MEMORIAL: Kevin Lee Brown Education Fund Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
