Nita Mae Bell, age 84, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. She was born in Garnett, Kansas, on August 15, 1924, the daughter of Homer and Roxie (Brashear) Wells. Nita graduated from Garnett High School in 1942 and spent her entire life in Garnett, Kansas with the exception of three years 1943 to 1946 when she went to work in Seattle, Washington. In 1946, Nita returned to Garnett and worked at Marie's Tea Room. She married Stanley Bell on April 15, 1942 at the Osage County Courthouse in Lyndon, Kansas. They shared 66 years together and this union was blessed with one daughter, Jody. Nita was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Garnett, taught Sunday school classes, and sang in the church choir. She was a lifetime member of the ladies VFW Auxiliary and she belonged to TOPS 193. Nita had a passion for dancing, cooking, and entertaining. She spent many "Saturday Nights" dancing at the Seattle Igloo, Scipio, Burlington, Kincaid, Moran, and Pittsburg. Nita was also an incredible cook. She is remembered the most for her decorated cakes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Bell on June 26, 2008; her parents, Homer and Roxie Wells, SR; and an infant son, Mitchell Lee Bell. Nita will be lovingly remembered by her family members who survive her; daughter, Jody Cole and husband Craig of Garnett, Kansas; her five grandchildren, Travis Rockers, of Garnett, Kansas; Adam Rockers, of Everett, Washington; Luke Rockers, of Garnett, Kansas; twins Sophia Cole and Dylan Cole, of Garnett, Kansas; one brother, Homer Wells, JR of Salina, Kansas; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Kent of Garnett, Kansas. Nita was known for her gentle and unconditional love as a mother and as a grandmother, her love of life, and her compassion for others. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, interment will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Abiding Life Ministries International (
