Nora Appaline "Susie" Hodgden, 79, passed away Thursday, Feb 9, 2017 at her home in Iola. She was born June 25, 1937 in Liberty County, GA to Ralph and Nora Elizabeth (Wells) McLamb. She grew up in the Gum Branch, GA area. She married Merrill D. Hodgden on Sept 1, 1953. They moved around several communities before settling in El Dorado, KS, where they lived for 20 years before coming to Iola in 1983. Susie was a member of the Carlyle Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Social Order of Beauceants, and the Gideons Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Merrill of the home, sons Merrill, Jr. and wife Malia of El Dorado, John and wife Julie of Thayer, Travis and wife Cindy of Cherryvale, Vance of Chanute, Aaron of Iola, Shane Ray of Norton, KS, and Shiloh Ray of Tacoma, WA; daughters Christine Grimm and husband Richard of Topeka, Rose Elliss and husband Darren of Westphalia, Patricia Hodgden of Iola, and Tammy Lynn and husband Bobby of Bosier City, LA; grandchildren Nicholas Hodgden, Malia Harden, April Grimm, Amy Grimm, John Hodgden, Jr., Jessica Hodgden, Joseph Hodgden, Raymond Head, Jacob Elliss, Stephanie Ray, Chelsea Ray, Cody Ray, Bobby Rash, Elijah Keever, Sequoia Keever, Brandon Housel, Mark Housel, Jessica Buxton; 18 great grandchildren; sisters Grace Rewis of Glenville, GA, and Joyce Teston of Claxton, GA. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ernest McLamb, M.R. McLamb, L.S. McLamb, and Guy McLamb, a sister Mavis Yarbrough, and a grandson Daniel Graham. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, Feb 13, 2017 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Her service will be Tuesday the 14th at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
