Olive Lorie Carpenter, age 98, of Iola, Kansas, passed away August 2, 2023, at Heartland Meadows, Iola, Kansas. Olive was born May 2, 1925, in rural Anderson County, Kansas, to Ira Francis and Pearl (Scott) Francis.
Olive grew up near LeRoy, Kansas, attending grade school in a one room school (Phillips) and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1943. She was a member of the Northcott Christian Church, which was near her home.
After graduation she worked at Chanute and Topeka, Kansas, offices for the AT&SF Railway Companies as a teletype operator. At the end of World War II, she attended and graduated from Peck's Beauty Academy in Emporia, Kansas. Olive worked as a beautician in Ottawa, Kansas. She later moved to Iola and worked at the Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service, where she retired after 32 ½ years of service. Olive was a member of the Iola Business & Professional Women's Club.
Olive married John W. Carpenter on April 10, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They moved to their farm north of Iola, where she continued to live after John's death on December 15, 1982.
Olive was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; and two brothers, Elton Francis, Scott Francis.
Olive is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Danny) Boese, Garnett, Kansas; her son, Steven (Donna) Carpenter, Iola, Kansas; her grandchildren, Thomas Carpenter, Iola, Kansas, Lorie Carpenter, Iola, Kansas, Molly Kate (Steven) Wilson, Garnett, Kansas; her great-grandson, Jaxten Wilson, Garnett, Kansas.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
