Opal June Mowat, age 95, of West Palm Beach, Florida, formerly of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017. She was born on October 9, 1921, at Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of William Thomas and Gertrude Blanche (McClanahan) Hamilton. June was united in marriage to Kenneth Mowat on June 20, 1937, at Peoria, Kansas. She spent many hours working at the First Christian Church that her father built as a stonemason. After breaking her hip in 2011, she moved to Florida to live with her daughter June and husband Bill. She especially enjoyed her visits with her grandson Cody and also took many trips. Judy enjoyed quilting and collected bells. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrude Hamilton; her husband, Kenneth Mowat on January 19, 2004; one brother, Frank Hamilton; and one sister, Annie Potter June is survived by one son, Larry Mowat of Milton, Florida; one daughter, Judy Schulman and husband William of West Palm Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Todd, Christine and Cody; four great grandchildren, two brothers, Bob Hamilton of Titusville, Florida, James Hamilton of Ormond Beach, Florida; and one sister, Dorothy Schrock of Ruston, Louisiana. Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Garnett Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the June Mowat Memorial Fund.
