Orva M. Bland, Sr., 82, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, February 25, 2011, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. Orva was born April 16, 1928, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of William M. and Gladys (Richmond) Bland. When he was still a baby the family moved to LeRoy, Kansas where he grew up. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War with the 78th tank company. On June 17, 1965, Orva married Virginia Reed. They made their home in LeRoy several years before moving to Iola. Over the years he worked for Quality Packaging, Walton Foundry, and I.M.P. Boats. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church. SURVIVORS: His wife: Virginia Bland of the home 2 Sons: Joe Bland of Iola, KS and Jerry Bland, Sr. and wife, Zolene of Iola, KS 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters including his brother, Carroll Bland of Iola, KS 8 Grandchildren & 2 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by an infant son Jimmy Dale Bland, son Orva M. "Sonny" Bland, Jr., 2 grandsons Jerry Bland and Levi Jeriah Bland, great grandson Peyton Harris and 2 brothers, Leslie & William Bland. VISITATION & GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Family and friends will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, to leave for graveside services to be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Gas City Cemetery.
