Orvis "Pete" Kunkel

Orvis "Pete" Kunkel, age 94, of Waverly, Kansas passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Coffey County Hospital, Burlington, Kansas. He was born August 29, 1919, on the family farm in Waverly, Kansas, the son of Fred and Anna (Ketterer) Kunkel. Upon returning from the service, Pete farmed in the Harris community. He was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, where he was still a member since October of 1956. Pete married Ruby Lavonne Miller on April 17, 1949, at the home place in Harris. This union was blessed with three children. In 1987, he moved to Garnett and lived until his health declined in 2002, moving then to Sunset Manor in Waverly. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby Kunkel; five brothers; four sisters; and one great grandson, Wade Miller. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Miller and husband Dale of Garnett, Kansas; Karen Broyles and husband Roger of Waverly, Kansas; one son, Michael Kunkel and wife Anita of Rossville, Indiana; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Ellen Miller of Garnett. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church and buried in the Bethel Cemetery, Westphalia.
