Patrick Beller, age 79, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Anderson County Hospital, Garnett. He was born May 16, 1940, in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Leo and Sarah Elizabeth (Lantz) Beller. He graduated from Ottawa High School, Ottawa, Kansas, with the Class of 1958. During his high school years, he played on the varsity football and basketball teams. Pat attended college at K.U. and Wichita. Then, Pat joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and served as a Medic. After leaving the Navy, he then graduated from Cal-State Fullerton, with a degree in education. Pat taught elementary and junior high schools in the L.A. school districts. After returning to Kansas, Pat taught in local school systems before marrying Carol Askins on March 24, 1979, in Garnett, Kansas. He opened Brandywine Gifts and joined his wife at Askins Beller Liquor. He loved music and played the trumpet during his elementary and high school years. While attending Wichita University, he played bass in a dance band at the Cotillion ballroom. Pat also loved the outdoors, canoeing, hiking, and fishing. He was a talented woodcarver. In his later years, Pat was an avid golfer. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Beth Beller; mother-in-law, Cora B. Askins; and his pets, Brandy, Buzzy, Raven, Pepper, Ginger, Buck and Ringo. He is survived by his wife, Carol Askins Beller, of the home; his beloved pets, Coco and JoJo; first cousins, Chris and Lila, Penny, Lea and Kevin, Steve, Joe, Susie, Jerry and Ethel, Marion and Tim, Kathy, Pam and Tim, Patrick, Lois, and Jerry; as well as his Askins Beller work family, Kathy, Wyonna, and Monica. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, with burial to follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
