Patricia Irene McGhee, age 87, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away at Parkview Heights in Garnett, Kansas on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
Patricia Irene Crotts was born on a cold winter night on February 3, 1936 at home in Virgil, Kansas. She was the second born twin. The twins were quickly wrapped in blankets and the Doctor announced them as being boys. Soon after, Pat's twin aunts were diapering them and discovered they were girls, not boys!
Pat led an active life with a love for the outdoors and her horses. Growing up on the farm, her life was filled with many activities such as milking cows, helping in the field and everything else that goes along with a farm. She enjoyed 4-H, especially getting to race her horse Champion at the fair and she always seemed to win! She, along with her sisters Lou and Viola, were featured on the front cover of Kansas Farmer magazine.
Saturday nights in LeRoy were always something to look forward to but one particular time was when she met the love of her life, Don, which resulted in 61 years of marriage. Pat's adult life was filled with training and breeding horses, attending Shodeos in early years, then on to cutting shows. Pat worked at various jobs throughout her life. After graduating high school, she went to Topeka for one year and worked at Bell Telephone Company, then at the Aliceville Bank, many years for Herff Jones, Gates Rubber Company, then lastly at Boren Roofing.
Pat and her husband Don loved music and Pat played her guitar in a band for many years. In later years, Don joined her playing the steel guitar.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Alice Porter Crotts; her husband Don; her two children Greg and Ricky; brother-in-law Larry Wilson and sister-in-law Carol Crotts.
Pat is survived by six siblings, her twin sister Lucretia "Lou" Spencer of Welda, KS, Viola Wilson of Hartford, KS, Larry Crotts and wife Catherine of Burlington, Kansas, Eddie Crotts of LeRoy, Kansas, Bruce Crotts and wife Maria of Henderson, Nevada, Marilyn Foltz and husband Butch of Garnett, Kansas; nieces that she claimed as daughters, Rhonda McDonnell and husband Mike of Emporia, Kansas, Brenda Hubler and husband Dale of Garnett, Kansas, Sandra Bach and husband Gary of Topeka, Kansas; brother and sister-in-law Judy and Larry McGhee of Edwardsville, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
