Patty Hoover

Patty Jean (Tate) Hoover, age 84, passed away peacefully at home July 19, 2024. She was born November 17, 1939, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Grady Walter and Alice Mary (Bennett) Tate.

Pat grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved to California where she attended high school. Ed and Pat were married while she was a senior at Whittier high school. They were married May 9, 1958, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple August 1, 1979.

While Ed was in the US Army for 20 years, Pat lived with him in France for four and one-half years, where their second son John was born. She took care of the family and maintained the household while he was in Korea and Vietnam when she could not be with him. One of their best assignments was in Alaska where they lived for 18 months.

When Ed retired in May 1975 after his last assignment at Ft Leavenworth, they moved to LaHarpe. After moving to LaHarpe, Pat worked the Lunchbox Café in Humboldt and Taco Grande in Iola, later she was the custodian at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she was a member.

Pat loved working on family history, indexing thousands of records including Ellis Island records for genealogical archives. She spent many hours over several years helping to run the Family History Library for the Iola Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Joseph W. Hoover, John R. Hoover; and brother, Grady Tate.

Pat is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ed Hoover, of LaHarpe; daughter, Carolyn J. Maloney, LaHarpe; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be planned at a later date. Inurnment will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
