Pauline Mary Ulses, age 95, of Westphalia, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Golden Heights in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on November 27, 1914 at Colony, Kansas, the daughter of Kilian and Frances (Fritz) Ulses. She graduated from Colony High School in 1932. Pauline lived and worked in Wichita, Kansas most of her adult life. During World War II, she was employed by Boeing as an assembly person in the manufacturing of airplanes. She worked for the Wichita Public Library as a library assistant, being awarded a Distinguished Service Citation by the City of Wichita for her 28 years and 11 months of service with the City Library. She retired in 1980 and moved to Westphalia to be near her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kilian and Frances Ulses; and all five siblings, Ervin Ulses, Sue Ulses Nolan, Thomas Ulses, Kathryn Ulses, and Lester Ulses; nephews Dale Ulses and Lawrence Nolan, and nieces Mary Frances Nolan and Marjorie Nolan. Pauline is survived by nieces and nephews, Marcella Nolan Skidmore and Alice Nolan of Westphalia; Patricia Nolan Prior of San Angelo, TX; Thomas and Carol Ulses of Algona, IA; Roger Ulses of Fenton, IA; John and M. Helena Nolan of Lenexa, KS; Gene and Monica Ulses of Omaha, NE; Dennis and Shirley Nolan of Westphalia, KS; Paul and Jan Ulses of Joice, IA; and Rosemary and Daniel Zaugg of Weatherford, TX. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2010, at the St. Teresa Catholic Church in Westphalia, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. Teresa Cemetery in Westphalia. The family will be present to greet friends following a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the church in Westphalia. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services and left in care of the funeral home.
