Ralph J. “Jim” Romig, age 82, of Lone Elm, Kansas, passed away on January 10, 2020, at St. Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas.
Ralph was born on April 10, 1937 to Ralph “Bud” Harrison and Hazel Irene (Dunn) Romig in Lindsborg, Kansas. He graduated from Madison High School in 1955. In 1980 he graduated from Neosho County Community College. He pursued further education at Wichita State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree for Administration of Justice. Ten years later, he received his Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice from Wichita State University.
On December 7, 1956 Ralph married Elsie Fraser Romig. Their union was blessed with three children. They later divorced. He later married Kim Palmer Romig on July 25, 1980. Ralph worked in communications for Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Emporia Police Department. He served as a patrolman in Eureka, Kansas. Ralph was also the Chief of Police in Burlington, Kansas. He also served as a security guard at multiple locations in the Southeast Kansas area. He finished out his career as the Municipal Judge of LaHarpe, Colony, and Yates Center, Kansas after receiving his certificate of qualification on November 22, 1993.
Ralph was a Kansas Freemason of the Salina Lodge #60. He became a member of the Iola Amateur Radio Club and held office as Vice President and President on multiple occasions.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Peterson; his brothers, Richard Romig and Randal Romig.
He is survived by his wife, Kim, of the home; son, Ralph W. Romig and wife, Diana; daughters, Karen Smith and husband, Bryan, and Phyllis Zorn; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. prior to services. Memorials are suggested to American Legion #385 of Moran, Kansas or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and can be left with the funeral home. Condolences for the family may be left at
