Ray Charles Hultz, age 95, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, Kansas.
Ray was born on May 12, 1928, on the family farm near Bush City, Kansas. He and his twin brother, Richard, were the third and fourth children born to Leo Arthur and Ida Iva (Lowman) Hultz. As infants, the boys were kept warm by their mother setting them in a box on the oven door. Ray attended school in Bush City and then worked on the family farm. He continued to farm in the Bush City area until purchasing his farm northeast of Bush City. Ray married Mary Agnes Kreitler on January 9, 1953. Their union was blessed with six children, Debra, Diane, Delores, Dorothy, Daniel, and Donna. In 1970 Ray sold the farm and moved to Garnett, where he continued to work on the farm. In 1987 Ray moved to Ottawa, Kansas and began working for Eckan. In his retirement he worked part time for the City of Ottawa with the parks department. Ray had two basic passions, work and gardening. His "Gpa corn" will be missed by his family. He enjoyed family get-togethers, tractors (as long as they were an International Harvester), watching westerns and America's Funniest Videos with his beloved dog, Spot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Debra Bova and Diane Boggs; one sister and two brothers, Mildred Ellington, Dean Hultz, Richard Lee Hultz; one grandson, Jason Boggs; and his former wife, Mary Kreitler.
Ray is survived by his children; Delores Jones and husband, David of Ottawa, Kansas, Dorothy Miltner and husband, Myron of Lawrence, Kansas, Daniel Hultz and wife, Elaine of Olathe, Kansas, Donna Doughty and husband, Tim of Shawnee, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Nathan Boggs, Melissa Anderson and Erik, Alyson Fuller-Smith and Sam, Cole Fuller and Anna, Sonja Miltner and Tyler, Adam Miltner and Erin, Justin Hultz and Kristin, Ian Doughty, and Abby Doughty; eight great grandchildren; and six nieces and their families.
