Raymond H. Kratzberg, age 91, of Greeley, Kansas, died on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Villa St. Francis Nursing Home in Olathe, Kansas. He was born on June 22, 1917, at Greeley, Kansas, the son of Frank A. and Mary M. (Hastert) Kratzberg. He served in the U. S. Army from February 28, 1941 to August 10, 1945. During WWII, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan; the Philippines and Aleutian Islands. He was awarded a Purple Heart during his service. Raymond was united in marriage to Mary Eva Rockers on October 16, 1945, in Greeley, Kansas. This union was blessed by four children. She passed away on May 16, 1994. Raymond later married Anna Marie Wolken. Following his return from the war Ray ran the Greeley Caf for five years before becoming a Rural Mail Carrier. He retired from the Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was a farmer in addition to his mail route and continued to farm following his retirement. He was a member of St. John's Church, Knights of Columbus, and he was a Charter member of the Greeley VFW Post, serving as the first commander. Ray enjoyed quail hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gregory and Harold; and his wife Mary Eva Kratzberg. He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Kratzberg; three sons, Gary Kratzberg and wife Cathy of Olathe, Kansas; Leon Kratzberg of Overland Park, Kansas; Carl Kratzberg and wife Cheryl of Greeley, Kansas; one daughter, Nancy Kratzberg of Topeka, Kansas; one sister, Marie Krajca of San Antonio, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2008, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. John's Cemetery in Greeley, Kansas. The family will greet friends following a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas.
