Raymond L. Dix, age 73, formerly of Iola, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2018, at Arrowood Lane Residential Care in Humboldt, Kansas. Raymond was born on April 1, 1944, in Iola, Kansas, to Van Dix and Juanita Henry Dix. Raymond married Mary Ellen Powers on January 6, 1968, in Iola, Kansas. Raymond was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iola. He taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as a church deacon. Raymond served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and then he served in the Army Reserves. He graduated from the Iola High School in 1964. He furthered his education by specialized college training in water treatment. Raymond worked at the City of Iola Water Treatment Plant for 32 years, retiring in 2006. He also worked in many local restaurants and cafes as a fry cook. Raymond was a hard worker. He worked a number of extra jobs to help his family. Raymond loved to be outdoors with his children, especially fishing and walking trails. Raymond is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, of the home; one son, Matthew Raymond Dix and wife, Shannon, Pleasant Valley, Missouri; three daughters, Melissa Creason and husband, Jim, Iola, Kansas; Michelle Hill, Joplin, Missouri; Monica Catron, Iola, Kansas; two brothers, Thomas A. Dix and wife, Amanda, Dongducheon, South Korea; John Dix and wife, Viva, Jerome, Missouri; one sister, Tonie Vest and husband, Butch, LaHarpe, Kansas; six grandchildren, Aaron Dix, Fort Scott, Kansas; Chantal Trester and husband, Nick, Iola, Kansas; Haley Hill, Joplin, Missouri; Caitlin Hill, Joplin, Missouri, Austin Hill, Joplin, Missouri, and Ella Dix, Pleasant Valley, Missouri, and five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Susan Dix. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 18, 2018, at The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola. The family requests memorials to Allen County Hospice or Alzheimer's Association and may be left at the funeral home. Condolences for the family may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com .
