Reinhard Hermann Krohn, 81, of Iola, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at his home. Rein was born October 24, 1927, in Pinneberg, Germany, the son of Hans Ernst and Olga Berta (Sass) Krohn. He attended school in Germany and served in the German Army during WWII. He became a prisoner of war by the Russians. After being released he returned to Pinneberg to finish his education in agriculture. In 1954, he came to the United States to farm near Great Bend, Kansas. After managing a ranch in Oklahoma for a couple of years, he returned to Kansas to farm in the Great Bend and Sanford areas. He became a United States citizen in 1960. In 1964, he bought a farm near Neosho Falls. On September 2, 1977, Rein married Carolynn Ahlf and they made their home in Iola. He retired in 1989. Rein was a member of the First Assembly of God in Iola, Kansas. Survivors include his wife, Carolynn of the home; 3 sons, Hans Krohn & wife, Melissa of Colby, KS, Jay Newland & wife, Candace of Omaha, NE, and Mark Newland & wife, Cindy of Iola, KS; 1 daughter, Becky French & husband, Steve of Iola, KS; 2 nephews, Hans and Walter Krohn and a great-nephew, Dennis Krohn all of Germany; 12 grandchildren, Gage Rein, Zoe, Jackson, Dylan, Dannette, Ben, Jacob & wife Erica, Nicholas, Kristen, Zachary, Kailey and Micheala; 4 Great Grandchildren, Racheal, Keair, Hunter and O.J. Two brothers, Gerhard and Peter Krohn, have preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening, Dec. 16, at the First Assembly of God located at 1020 East Carpenter in Iola. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the First Assembly of God in Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Iola. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God in Iola, and may be left at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
