Richard Coleman Apt, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died September 16th, of liver cancer. He is survived by his mother, Denise C. Apt; two siblings, Barbara & Dan Bukaty, Overland Park, KS and Janet and Fred G. Apt III, Iola; a niece, Aleaka & Carlton Morgan, Shawnee, KS and four nephews, Derick & Callie Apt, Park City, UT, Jeremy Apt, Mission, KS, Preston & Harrison Bukaty, Overland Park, KS. Also two great-nephews, Bennett & Coleman Morgan. His father, Frederick G. Apt, Jr. preceded him in death. Richard attended Iola schools and graduated from Iola Senior High in 1978. He attended Colorado Institute of Art, then the Art Institute of Houston, graduating in 1980 and was named the "Outstanding Student". His career in art began with Nichols Advertising Art, Dallas, Texas from 1980 to 1983, and was Production Associate for Fashion Showcase Retailer from 1983 to 1985. In 1986, he moved to O'Conner Advertising, Dallas, Texas as Senior Art Director. In 1994, he became the Art Director for Mervyns Department Stores, San Francisco, CA, he also had a very successful free-lance career with clients such as Eddie Bauer Home, Hallmark, JC Penney's and Macy's. He moved to Atlanta, GA as the Art Director for Pure Red Creative Agency, handling such accounts as, Kirkland's, Steinmart, Home Depot and Winterthur. Three years ago he went to Kohls Department in Milwaukee, as an Art Director, where he was recognized for both his talent and wit, handling major catalogs and the advertising for the Jennifer Lopez line. A service celebrating Richard Apt's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Buckeye & Madison, Iola, Kansas, Saturday, October 8th at 10:00 a.m. To honor Richard, the family has selected the Richard Coleman Apt Memorial Scholarship at the Allen County Community College, 1801 N.
