Richard Canfield

Richard Lewis (Dick) Canfield, age 97, of Iola, Kansas, passed away January 26, 2025, at his residence. Richard was born December 29, 1927, in Topeka, Kansas, to Lewis Canfield and Mabel (Butt) Canfield.

Richard was raised in Topeka, attended Topeka schools, and graduated from Topeka High School and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Richard and Wanda Mae Metzen were married on October 15, 1978, in Chanute, Kansas.

Richard enjoyed camping, taking computer classes at Allen Community College, and, with his wife, Wanda, traveling throughout the Midwest researching family genealogy and exploring historical sites.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda; sister, Dorothy Elizabeth (Canfield) Steinmeier, and brother, Donald Frederick Canfield.

Richard is survived by four children; son, Russell Canfield; three daughters, Tamara (Tami) Robbins, Terill (Teri) Canfield, and Laurin Canfield from his marriage to the former Mary M. Brelsford; step-children, Vicki Janet Saubers-Wright, Daniel Ray Saubers, David Randall Saubers, Liana Saubers-Potter, Paul Dewayne Saubers, Troy Donald Saubers; sister, Sandra Fischer; brother-in-law, Craig Fischer; twenty grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Richard will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.

The family suggests memorials in Richard's memory be made to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF), and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
