Richard "Dick" Jerome Schneider, age 80, of La Harpe, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on December 7, 2024.
Dick was born in Akron, Ohio on February 13, 1944, to Herbert and Bettie (Coleman) Schneider.
Dick served his country in the United States Army as a communications specialist for the 724th Maintenance Battalion. He was stationed in Augsburg, Germany, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged.
He earned his Associates of applied science in Electronic Technology and Instrumentation Technology and the honor of being on the Dean's list from the University of Akron. He went on to earn his Bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Dick loved to build and tinker with anything as an engineer. He enjoyed his weekly poker game with friends, Clive Kessler novels, and spending time with family and friends. He was a revered member of the local water board and a community advocate.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Kathleen (Kathy) Schneider.
He is survived by children, Sandra Schneider and Steve (Jennifer) Jones; grandson, Cameron Jones; great-grandson, Kenyon Brown; siblings, H. William Schneider, Blanche M. Mudge, Thomas F. Schneider; and many friends and family that will deeply miss him.
A funeral service for Dick Schneider will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. Burial will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and may be left in the care of the funeral home.
