Richard J. “Dick” Tinsley, age 69, of Waverly, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He was born January 4, 1950, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of James David and Lucy Mae (Whaley) Tinsley. Dick graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1969. Upon graduating, Dick worked for a short time for a construction company building the Welda highway overpass. He then began working for KDOT in Waverly, Kansas for over 30 years. Upon retiring, he took care of cows, horses and donkeys. He collected antiques and oddities. He married Phyllis Gibson in the 1980’s and they later divorced. Dick was preceded in death by his father, James Tinsley. He is survived by his mother, Lucy Cherry of Osage City, Kansas; two brothers, David Tinsley and wife Cindy of Colony, Kansas; Don Millington of Garnett, Kansas; one sister, Reta Hoyt and husband Garland of Gardner, Kansas; three nephews, John Tinsley, Jacob Tinsley, Obidah Hoyt, two nieces, Faith Lanning and Amber Tinsley Peterson; and former wife, Phyllis Castleberry; two step-daughters, Sarah Sutton and Denise Ferguson Fish. A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, with inurnment to follow in the Garnett Cemetery.
